1100 MF Engine Knock

I purchased a 1100 MF today with some engine noise. The owner claimed he clogged up his round baler and it shut the tractor down. After cleaning the baler and starting the tractor back up it developed a "knock". I was pretty confident it was something simple so I bought it. Upon getting it home I pulled the valve cover and ran it. Everything looks good on the top end. So I said screw it and pulled the pan. All the main bearings look decent enough. #1 and #5 rod bearings had some significant grooves but nothing that made me think that was my issue. I m going to order a set of bearings and throw an oil pump on it while I m theyre but I m afraid the bearings aren t the issue. Also the pan was clean as a whistle. Small amount of "grey sludge" like bearing material but again they didn t look too bad. Was hoping someone had another idea where to go? I was thinking bad injector maybe? It is white/grey smoking pretty good.

White smoke means low compression on one or more cylinders. Get it running and warmed up, then with engine at idle speed loosen each injector line nut one at a time, any
that lowers/stops the white smoke is the suspect cylinder. Engine compression test with all injectors out would be a good idea too, should be 350 PSI or higher for best
running.

I'd take a look see in the radiator for low coolant, and then if there are bubbles in there while running. Bad head gasket can be white smoke also.

I have been working on and using an 1105
which I think is close to the same
tractor. Mine smokes quite a bit from
white to gray color. Thought it was fuel
related but going through the fuel system
didn't change anything. Goes away when
hot. Kept searching the internet fir
solutions, the 354 perkins used low
quality oil rings which can wear out
early and creates smoke.
For the knock I don't know how the
hydraulic pump attaches to the front of
the engine, 1105 has 4 bolts and rubber
coated bushings to connect everything.
Mine was so worn that the holes where the
bushings go were completely egg shaped
and bushings destroyed. Was able to weld
the holes and used a die grinder to make
round again with new bushings.

Maybe a wrist pin. I rebuilt a 4010 gas for a guy one time it had a pretty good knock. The wrist pin was broken in the rod end. Just the bushing holding things together. One of dads MF 65s broke a crank. I thought it was a rod. I pulled the engine, and the rods and main looked good. When I lifted the crank from the block only part of it came out, it was broken in the front throw. Bad injector, or maybe a tip came off an injector. Loose piece of carbon?

at my employer, a m f dealer we had a 285 that had a knock and could find nothing wrong. we even ran it with the pan off by oiling it thru the oil rifle with a
pressure can. We finally found the crankshaft was broken. It ran good, didn't smoke but had an unusual knock.

After talking with some guys today my guys telling me that s the culprit. I m going to invest age that tomorrow. Wonder if it s possible to slip a crank in one without splitting it and pulling the engine?
