Ford's better idea.

I've been seeing the sliding bed bottoms for sale for a while now. Apparently someone at Ford noticed them as well and has decided it was their idea.

Agreed. Likely they are calling it new because of all the bells and whistles included. Damage it and see what the repair bill will be.

That just points out how much the patent system has declined / been corrupted. Nearly everything show has been in the public domain for years and being built by other companies.

Patent applications used to be reviewed by examiners "skilled in the art" of the relevant field. Today they are reviewed by burocrats and attorneys and most anything will get a patent no mater how bogus the claims. Then the external attorneys get to profit greatly from the littigation surrounding the invalid but issued patents.

A sliding bed is just one thing. There is more.
Split tailgate that attaches to the slide and a step below the bumper.
I think it's a cool idea all around.
Best of both worlds, a short bed for a club cab and extension for a long bed. There also appears to be a tool box in the tailgate or something.
Also a built in ramp.

Corruption for sure John Deere can sue IH over a corn
head 30 years after its introduction.. but JD can copy the
Farmall 5 years later.

Looks cheap and cheesy like the cheap junk tailgates in most pickups since the 50's. Just make a regular 8 foot box and be done with it. I would not want one of these newer half a box pickups.

Isnt it funny how they made the long box on an F150 about 6 1/2 feet when it used to be 8 feet. So now that the shorter box isnt doing the job they are coming up with ways to make it longer. Personally I just buy a super-dutys with an 8 foot bed so I can haul things with my tailgate closed.

Considering my friend just spent $900 getting his automatic sunning boards to work I can only imagine the damage and costs to this thing if you dropped something heavy on it (in the bed or extended).
