Farmall bn flywheel removal

I have a Farmall bn that I split and need to remove the flywheel to get to the water jacket expansion plug . Any tips or tricks to make this easier ? Thanks

Two things need be mentioned. The thing is very heavy. It is reasonable to support it with an engine crane or two people and a place to set it down. it has a locating dowel that will hold it in place so it will need to be evenly pried rearward to be free of the crankshaft. I would replace the rear main seal if I had it apart. Be careful. Jim

Get a couple 6 inch bolts to thread in there while you are
separating the flywheel from the crank. That will keep it
under control until you are ready to lift it.

ok . Good idea . What has to come off of the flywheel? I'm sorry if that's a stupid question but I have no experience with this tractor.

There is likely a clutch pressure plate and driven disc under it. There are six bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel. The Pressure plate and flywheel should be marked with a permanent marker to put it back where it was. You will need an alignment tool to get the driven disc back in the center, so the transmission shaft (called the clutch shaft) can be pushed back in with no damage. Once those are removed the flywheel comes off. Purchasing an IT repair manual is a good idea. This site sells manuals. You will need torque specifications and process for putting it together. Jim

(quoted from post at 14:05:11 09/09/23) I replaced one without removing flywheel. I did not get to strike it in center, but expanded nicely
how did you manage to get it out ?

(quoted from post at 15:49:01 09/09/23) Sheet metal screw and slide hammer
I got mine out . I beat a flathead screwdriver in and pried and it popped out . Do you use some kind of sealer around it ?

well i am sure if your looking at the flywheel from behind your question will be answered by your self. u need to remove the pressure plate
then the clutch disc then the flywheel bolts.

Number 2 Permatex is my recommendation. Thin coat around the well cleaned opening, then install. I like to see the center of the plug dented in 1/16 inch. Jim
