I have an older john deere 2520 row crop. It is a gas engine it has been idling rough on start up and under load or higher rpms bogs out? Recently rebuilt the carb, before buying a new one wanted to see if anyone has any idea of anything else it could be??? Please help

Welcome to the forums.

You say you rebuilt the carb, what did that include? Did you use torch tip cleaners or fine wires to probe all the ports and passages besides using carb cleaner and compressed air. Air filter condition? When were the valves last adjusted? When was the last ignition tune up (plugs, points, condenser, wires, cap, rotor as needed)? Was the timing set with a timing light and the advance checked to see that it is working? Your engine has a fuel pump, but have you unhooked the line coming from the tank to the pump and run it into a container to see that it runs a full stream? there could be a built up in the shut off standpipe that is in the tank. Does it still have the fuel shut off solenoid on the carb's main jet? Some of the things that could affect how it runs.

Point setting and condition of the distributor cam bearings can create those symptoms. If the cam (under the distributor cap and has the rotor on it) can be moved sideways and up and down, it is worn. No visible play shoud be found there. Jim

I have had a rash of clogged air filters in customer tractors lately that have caused running problems, so make sure the air supply is not restricted.

Do some troubleshooting; one thing at a time, as Jim.Me suggested? I would say,put
in a old, used condenser.. Give a try??

Thanks for your response, carb rebuild was a basic rebuild kit with just carb cleaner and compressed air. Tune up was 2 years ago but only put about 200hrs on a year. Never adjusted valves, it does have fuel shut off on it. I will start with these basic things Maybe check fuel flow as suggested, I appreciate your thoughts and time.
