Driverless tractor demo- F P S

There was a driverless T - 8, N H tractor at the Farm Progress Show . Any of you see that. The T-8 was pulling a grain cart along side a large N H combine harvesting corn. The T -8 was moving exactly the same speed as the CR 990 N H combine. Apparently the combine operator had software in his combine cab which was controlling the T - 8 grain cart tractor. There was no crash at the end of the field. I think the computer software to control a grain cart tractor from a combine cab is on the open market now, not sure. I wonder how many farmers will adopt this driverless tractor technology in the next 3 or 4 years. Seems like it would eliminate a hired hand down on the farm if you can't find help during corn harvest. What do you think about this. This was on U tube ,search for N H T-8 driverless tractor at FPS.

This is merely the tip of the iceberg and that is a very good thing. 10 years or so ago I went to a symposium on the "lights out" data center which means that their huge data center ran for days with no human intervention, hence no need to have lights on.

Just yesterday watched a Practical Machinist video highlight a million square foot machine shop that makes hydrulic parts for nearly ever brand of airplane on the Earth. In their production area they run one shift of people, and those folks set up the jobs that run lights out for the next 14 hours. The machine tools just follow the programs, change their own tooling as required and monitor themselves for breakdowns. The world has changed.

And the gov't. keeps bragging about number of jobs created. When will they figure out that it is workers and not jobs that are needed?

This is merely the tip of the iceberg. X2

AI is here and watch out for changes we never
dreamed of.

We went to look at drone sprayers spent about 2 hours talking to the dealer my 32 old son wants to add this and he has me on board with idea. Talking light out deal our shop does that with EDM machines, put large due section on and they cut over the weekend, if problem they call the guy on call that weekend.

There was a seminar given at NFMS 5+ years ago on this subject. Eliminating down time
of unloading modern capacity combines would raise productivity a substantial amount.
Can't remember percentage increase but it was greater than forty percent.

From self-reporting surveys, there are 7 million able bodied people that are not looking for
work. 90% of those are spending 2000 hrs. a year on screens. 2080 hrs. a year is considered
a full time job. Sounds like there are plenty of would be workers.

Add a self driving truck or two to wait in line to unload at the elevator or haul loads back to the main farm? Self unload into the grain pit next to the dryer and return to the field for another load.

Self driving tractors should work for tillage and for road transport also. One driver operating two tractors, maybe a third moving from field to field or from farm to farm.

Agriculture has always thrived on technology and automation (like tractors), I don't see that changing anytime soon. The current generation of farmers is about sixty years old, a lot will likely change as those farms change hands in the near future.

It doesn't take too long for most people to figure out that you will never get rich working for a farmer.
