Buying Yanmar 2000

I've been thinking about buying a Yanmar 2000 2wd with new tires and battery and a rototiller attached. It appears to be in descent condition. I understand that it is a good engine as it is used in many John Deere machines as well as many others.
My questions are: Does the tractor itself have a good reputation? Is there a good source for support and parts, if needed? Is Yanmar still in business?
Thanks for any input.

You are probably better off asking this on
one of the other internet forums.
This site is full of very knowledgeable
people but the likelihood of finding info on
a modern import might be better elsewhere.

I wouldn't call that tractor modern... it's nearly fifty years old.

You should look into grey market tractors. There is nothing wrong with the YM2000, but it was not sold in the USA by Yanmar (or anyone else). You
cannot just walk into a dealer and buy parts for it. Yanmar was a supplier to Deere, but not that engine.

Many people are very happy with their grey market tractors, but if you don't know what you're getting into I would suggest reading about them first.
Yanmar Grey Market Notice

Actually Hoye Tractor which started out as a Grey Market Yanmar parts supplier is now probably the best bet for any Yanmar and some JD parts for machines built before 2000.

80 years old and about 55 of those in the tractor bussiness my advise is you cannot buy it cheap
enough to be a bargain. Just too many other choices out there do some more looking. Has to be
something out there when you said two wheel drive on a small tractor that makes the price drop big
time, more than likely on that tractor you have a foreign tiller that parts will not be available or
at least hard to find.

We have a JD 4600, 2001, and it has a Yanmar engine, and I don't know how much more. It has a reverser like JD has had since the 60's. It's the best piece of
equipment I have ever owned or run, but it wouldn't be nearly as good if it were only 2 wd. The tractor has been flawless, it has 1400 hours on it.

I'm a Yanmar fan, even the grey versions like the YM2000. But, those early ones are nothing like the little 3cyl in my JD455 mower/garden tractor. Mine is smooth and quite, the 2cyl like the 2000 are noisy and rough. Good tractor in it day but that was yesterday. I'd look for a 3 cyl. Even a grey in some brands if you're able and willing to shop for parts and do your own work.
