Although some days it feels like it, I was not there to take this picture. It is a Ford Motor Company training slide that I was given by the company when I was involved in training farm staff.

This was taken in 1917 at the demonstration of the new Fordson tractor, to British government officials prior to them ordering the first 6000 production tractors that Henry Ford made under the Fordson name. They were called the Fordson MOM, Ministry of Munitions, because they were owned by that department and loan to British farmers.

When ordered, in October 1917, the tractor was not in production and only prototypes had been built, but by April 1918, all 6000 had been delivered and were working on British farms. How long is it, today between ordering a new tractor and delivery?

It is incredible how much farming (and everything else too), has changed in roughly the last 100 years.
