420 C engine questions

Working on 420 C.... Engine must have over sped and governor weights wore out some of inside of housing.... Should there be shims on shaft to prevent weights from moving too far?

420 C does not ring a bell. Brand and model would help.
Governor weights are almost always held from hitting anything unless the pivots they are retained by are worn to the point of failure. the weight stop mechanism could be warn as well, or modified by others to gain RPM (usually not effective). Governor springs increase speed when they are stiffer, and reduce speeds when weaker. Jim

That's what the adjustment screw is
for. The governor rod should be set
1 1/2 rounds long to keep it from
bottoming out. Probably best to get
a replacement on ebay but I suppose
you could measure the wear and add
it to the 1 1/2 rounds.

I can't remember if there's a shim
but it will be in the parts book.
