How weak of a mixture of 41% Glyphosate can I go to kill lawn grass and weeds with a decent kill and not cause problems.
My back does not allow me to use a weed eater so my only option is to spray around tree trunks and along the fence and other obstacles the mower can not get to.

I recently bought 2.5 gallons of 41%.
Instructions said 1-2% for most weeds and grass.

I just sprayed 2% a few days ago. Still waiting to see any positive results..
In the past it would take 4-6 days to see weeds stressing.

If there is a next time, I may increase mixture to 3 or 4%

I'm not a good one to ask. I use the glug method of measuring, You no know two glugs to two gallons water. not very accurate.

I know it is supposedly inert once it hits the soil, but I had a tree die after we had been spraying glyphosate around it to eliminate the mow around problem. I don't know what killed the tree, we just don't spray any herbicides around the trees anymore. It just takes too long to grow a nice tree. We still spray fencelines and the driveways and around up next to the bldgs. As far as mixing, read the instructions and add a little bit more has been my norm. gobble

When it's hot and you have good soil moisture it will kill quicker with a weaker mix. I adjust accordingly from 1 oz per gallon when hot and damp to 2 oz per gallon in EITHER cool or dry conditions. The grass and weeds do not have to be drowned with the mix. The vast majority of people vastly over apply when using hand equipment. Doesn't hurt anything except the pocketbook I guess?

Exactly! Do not believe that RU products won't harm trees. We have a small orchard here, Apple and Pear trees. I was told it was harmless to trees so I sprayed around all of them, not being careless but not extra careful either. A week later the leaves all stated to brown amd roll up. That was 5 years ago. Didn't have fruit for 2 years and was ready to cut them all down. The Apple trees have mostly recovered, lost two out of four Pear trees.

First off I have nothing against using Glyphosate or any type of weedkiller. However I have found that using Vinegar with a splash of liquid laundry detergent mixed up in the sprayer works great!

It's my understanding that glyphosate doesn't normally kill established trees but it's certainly not good for them. Accumulative use gets into the soil and damages the root system. Because of that it's sometimes used to kill young saplings. If it were me I wouldn't use it around a tree you wish to keep.

We use glyphosate to spray under the rows of trees in our nursery. We do use a hooded sprayer, because glyphosate will burn the bark of trees under certain conditions. That would be unacceptable for us, hence the spray hood. There is no problem of the roots absorbing chemical, r-up does not work like that.

Yes, just regular off the grocery store shelf vinegar. You can buy a higher acid content vinegar if you want but it comes with a higher price. I usually find it on sale in the grocery store on sale for a little less than three dollars a gallon. I usually just add about 6 to 8 oz. of liquid laundry detergent to a gallon of vinegar.
