Firing order B414

I recently acquired a second IH B414 that was not running. I got it running today and it runs good. Upon closer inspection I see that it's plug wires are using a firing order of 1-2-4-3 while my other B414 uses 1-3-4-2. So I swapped the 2 & 3 plug wires to give it the correct firing order, but it backfires and sputters. So why would it run better on 1-2-4-3? Could this be a timing issue?
TIA

have u confermed that it is actually firing on each cylinder with that 1243 order? 1342 is the most common so i dont know what that is all
about. allis uses a different order. check the timing is always a good thing on any new tractor to u. along with everything else.

Are you reading distributor rotation correctly? if every cylinder is firing (pulling one wire at a time) then it is correct as is. Jim

I would just like to expand a bit on what Jim is saying about distributor rotation. You said the firing order was thought to be 1 2 4 3. So lets write it 2 4 3 1 moving the one to the end. That still follows the order the wires are in the cap but you just start at a different cylinder. Now look at the order if you misinterpreted the rotation direction, read the other direction around the cap makes it the common firing order of 1 3 4 2.

post a good picture of both engines and the wires showing the order, we will then see whats going on. lots easier than speculating.

Glad to help, I have had University students that do not know clockwise from counterclockwise because the only see digital clocks. Even though there is an analog clock on the wall. Some distributors turn opposite of engine rotation some don't! Jim
