Hart Parr.
The tractors in this mornings pictures are all possibly common sites on your side of the pond, but here they are a bit special. We had International, McCormick's, Case, and a few John Deeres and Caterpillars on farms, when I first started taking an interest in tractors, back in the late 1940's but our main tractor on most farms was the Fordson Model N and, later the E27N Major. Never saw a Hart Parr until tractor shows became more common in the 1970's.

Charles Hart and Charles Parr became fiends while students at the University of Wisconsin. They built their first tractors near Madison but then found better financing in Hart's home town of Charles City, Iowa and moved their manufacturing facilities there around 1902. It was there, in 1906, that their sales manager, W H Williams, decided that the words ''Traction Engine'' were too long and vague and started calling them ''tractors'' for advertising purposes. So Hart Parr was, in a way, the world's first tractor.
