looking at a 3930 Ford tractor

Are these a decent machine? are they a late model version based on the old Ford 3000's?

anything to watch for?

found 2 with loaders both under 900 hours both 1993-95. one is 4WD but with turf tires and the other is 2WD with Ag tires.

THanks.

Good tractors but some parts are hard to come by, Dual Power gearbox was designed by Kubota and parts are no longer available. I have been looking for parts for a friend for a couple of years now. Think the standard gearbox with forward and reverse shuttle is OK. my friend is going to convert his.

How do you tell the difference between the two transmissions to know which one you have?

Were those the only 2 transmissions?

Thanks

The standard 8x2 transmission Ford used for years is the best
The 8x8 synchronized transmission is a Kubota design, good trans but not parts support should it ever fail
If it hasn t been maintained with proper fluid changes and suction screen cleaning it will fail
Minimum to not parts support for the 4wd front axle either

Good overall tractor but for the same size chassis I d rather have the added hp of the 4630

Majorman what parts are you looking for ?
I have a 8x8 dual parts part transmission in my storage trailer

i have a 2 wd 3930. it does what i ask it to do. once in a while it seems the baler bounces it around quite a bit however. my loader is plumbed into outside remote, and has a joystick . i've seen 3930 tractors that use both remotes to operate the loader however. i like the tractor, but i use a 3600 more often it seems.

Wish I had known that a couple of years ago. My friend had his tractor out of the field since
2017 but has now replaced the transmission with a standard 8 speed. Thanks anyway. Seems it was
all the clutches that had to be replaced and the price, if he could have got them, was too much.

They're a good tractor... The 8x8 and 16x8 are both derivatives of the same just that one has dual power. Both are a syncro mechanical shuttle. Both are a joint development with Kubota. Parts for both are getting difficult and there is no direct cross to any Kubota parts. If it has the 8x2 crashbox... then that's a plain old Ford transmission that's basically bulletproof.
Otherwise the tractor is a 4x00 derivative with a slightly detuned 201 or 192 engine. As a loader tractor they are light for the Ford loader they had spec'd. The MFWD will crumble if you don't keep good ballast on the back.
The transmission is decent provided you don't force it while shifting as the syncro's are a bit sensitive. I've broken a couple syncro rings when someone didn't clutch while shifting... Otherwise it's a very capable 45hp tractor.

I bought a 3910 predecessor to the 30. It has lots of upgrades over my 3000 and to say that they are similar is a disservice to the former. One thing I will say is that when I bought it it had the horizontal muffler and made a lot of racket. Replacing the little oval OEM muffler under the left foot rest didn't change a thing.

Looked up a vertical exhaust system and replaced the original. Still noisy and i was standing by it one day and noticed that the long oval muffler's sides (that that I thought would fix the noise problem) were vibrating and generating noise on their own.

My 3000 has a round vertical muffler which I bought since it was quiet, with a short angled extension (I added) pointed away from me. I can now just about work that tractor with no ear protection. The 0.2 piston diameter increase isn't properly balanced, or its taxing the block which has braces like the 3000 or better but it is significantly noisier.

The other thing is that over 1600 RPM vibrations increase exponentially. My machine is in no way worn out.....bought it with 900 hours in an extate sale...ala old man didn't use it very much to mow his pasture.....no wear on the drawbar.

If he was looking for the dual power clutches I couldn t help him
This one wasn t maintained and the suction screen plugged up, it burnt up the aluminum oil pump along with the DP clutches
The clutches 7 years ago where $900, the oil pump was $1000 with only two available in North America at that time
The regulating valve and distributor housing were badly scored and non available new, add in a few discontinued thrust washers and we decided to replace it with a 8x8 non DP transmission
I have a decent case, all gears are good and synchro s are useable plus a good DP solenoid
