Those were made back when a Dodge was a tough well made truck with bigger brakes on it than most of the other brands. They had real oil pressure flow. Not just that old splasher GM thing with dippers on the bottom of the rod caps with 5or 10 PSI . Biggest problem was the Siamese cylinders with that thin head gasket between cylinders.

My Grandpa had a 1939 flatbed on the farm that was that style. Thing I thought was cool was there was a crank at the top center of the windshield that when you turned it the bottom of the windshield moved forward towards the back of the hood. I guess it was an early attempt at 345 air conditioning.

My 38 GMC has the 230 Oldsmobile (OEM) full pressure engine. In 39 GMC came out with an OHV full pressure engine. Chevy didn't get it until 53 or 54.

(quoted from post at 12:04:32 06/27/23) Siamese cylinders with that thin head gasket between cylinders.

???????? I thought the flathead six was about as durable an engine as could be found back in those days. Right up into the early 60s even. Never saw one with Siamese cylinders.
I know the bigger Dodge trucks of that era could be had with a diesel for a few years but I can't find evidence that it had Siamese cylinders either.

In more recent times, the Dodge (Cummins) Diesels may have had Siamese cylinders but I don't know.

chassis looks just like the 1938 dodge fire truck we had--it was our main pumper with a rotary gear pump

My 51 3/4 ton GMC is a 270cid Full pressure engine with stock PVC (oil bath air cleaner for crankcase air intake, no draft tube).
