Grain Elevator Pic

A photo and jigsaw from two years ago. Shot this as we were coming home from a local car show. One of the last surviving wooden grain elevators in the area. Privately owned now and the rail line is long gone. Used to be a row of maybe half a dozen here back when the Mercury was new.

After moving the old granary I noticed elevators more. My Great Grandpa established the first elevator/ flour mill in our home town. I m always reminded of this picture shared on YT.

Thanks for the picture and puzzle. I used to work in a grain elevator in Wisconsin. And, I love those 1952-53 and 54 Mercury cars. My favorite body style. I almost bought a brand new 1954 left over Mercury Monterey 4 door sedan. Dark Green. Same body style but with an overhead valve Y block engine. 161 hp. I was thinking it over and haggling a little bit with the dealer (dealer wanted $2440) and someone else bought it.

The only special thing about this 52 Merc is that it was my dad's car through 1959 to 1969 and it took us everywhere we needed to go.

I remember the first time I drove to Alaska there were many of those wooden elevators all across the Canadian Prairie along with many small farm sized wooden round bins on farms, I have never seen a wooden bin before down here in MN all that I seen were steel

Those round plywood grain bins were popular here in the sixties. I had the fun of shoveling grain out of them occasionally. You had to be young and agile to be able to climb out the tiny door past the grain auger tube. The roofs eventually gave out and I have even seen one burst open when the side sheets got weak. They had a steel band or two around for extra strength.

Hi rusty6 yep it was 1973 the first time I and my brother drove up the Alcan in his nice 1967 Mercury Meteor
