Something good to say

I know it's not popular on here and I'll probably get accused of smoking crack or something, but I just had an
unbelievable experience at the Secretary of State's Office in Alma Michigan. I had to renew the license tabs for my
pickup and stopped in after we dropped a load of cattle at the sale barn. The door hadn't even closed behind me yet
and the gal called my right up to the counter. I handed her the form that came in the mail and told her what I was
there for. She asked for my phone number, I gave it to her, she told me how much it was and she was done with what
she had to do faster than I could write the check. She thanked me and I was out. I doubt I was in there three
minutes. I think the same song was still on the radio when I got back in the truck as was playing when I got out.

Remember this the next time you wait forever and then they tell you something you have is not right. It is like remembering the perfect summer day while out in a blizzard. LOL Tom

I was at a DPS office for CDL paperwork once. They were pretty well organized and had an initial couple "triage" windows to check what people needed and direct them to the correct other windows, forms, etc.

When I got to the proper window the woman there was amazing and had another DPS office on the phone to transfer paperwork for me while she was handling another customer as well as helping the new guy working the other window. Presumably she has moved on to bigger and better things by now.

my experiences with the Mi SoS out here in the corn fields have been mostly positive as well. there used to be an office in Vassar that was always like u described. it was closed, presumably because of so little traffic, and candice miller took a lot of heat for it, but it was the right thing to do. there's one in Caro that is still pretty close to that, in terms of the time u need to spend there. the one in Lapeer is as bad as the ones in metro Detroit. i've walked into it twice and walked right back out both times, it was a human sardine can.

In much of Texas you can renew registrations at most neighborhood H.E.B. grocery stores. Has to be the county you live in. Time it right, have your check written and you are in and out. Otherwise it's a drive to a county tax office.

Online renewal unless over like 50,000 GVW. No need to visit anywhere in most cases.

North Dakota has lots of self-service kiosks in malls, truck stops, supermarkets, etc., and you can print your own renewal tabs instantly without human interaction.

Must be many other states with a similar setup?

Some people have all the luck. Not quite like that at the California DMV. Stand in line for a half hour to get number to show up at one of the 20 or so windows. Wait for your number to be called another 1/2 hr or more. Then if every things goes right, go to another line to pay, that line goes faster when they are getting your money. Heading there soon to renew my Motorcycle license, and auto license. Not looking foreward to that. Stan

I usually renew by mail, but it expired Friday and I remembered it Saturday. Too late. I remebered in October one year that it had expired in June. I knew the gal at the counter that time. She smiled and said ''Get caught?''. I laughed and said ''No, just remembered.''.

From what I hear, Ionia is better than Greenville. I've gone to the Ionia branch before, but it's been a lot of years. The reviews online say the one in Alma is one of the worst, but this was the second time I've gone there and I was real impressed both times. I had to renew my CDL last year, two of the clerks were on break when I got there and I was still out of there in twenty minutes.

I remember when I first started driving, there was a branch office in the back of the flower shop in Stanton. You'd go in, Mrs Damaska would wipe the dirt off her hands and go behind the counter.

I still go to the same court house, same office as my Grandpa, my Dad, my self and my kids, and soon my Grandkids do every year. Almost never a line. And if there is I know the people in line and we chat while waiting. Exactly the same with drivers license renewals. Some places never change. Got to love small towns.

Not familiar with Calif but there is no online of kiosk renewal? Indiana has both. I waited too long to get the online filing thru the mail so went to BMV. Super helpful girl there walked me to the lobby and helped print the registrations on the spot.

Never heard of that, only do in person and have for 63 years. Not going to
change. Drivers licence how do you do vision test without going in?

The last time my mother renewed her license she was worried.
Her younger brother didn't pass his test. (which was probably a good thing) So she studied hard and when it came up for renewal they never tested her , they let her renew by mail !
I think she was 93 or 94 at the time !
This is Michigan.
She did a good job driving I've followed her and ridden with her , But still.
