case 870 pto brake wont release

HOW are you determining that the PTO brake (which is internal and not observable) is not releasing?

PTO brake is spring-applied and released by oil pressure to the PTO clutch.

It doesn't have much stopping power and the PTO should engage and operate even with the brake dragging.

NOT that I'm saying that operating the machine IF the PTO brake is actually NOT releasing is acceptable.

Remove hyd. pump you can see the back of the brake. The roll pin can break and the piston will come off and your pto will not work. The piston will fall in a little cavity,But it can be put back on with a lot patience. You must be creative.
