Farmall h choke

Rebuilt carb on Farmall H but when push choke in butterfly closes enough that tractor won t run, butterfly is open at half choke position what do I do to adjust? Thanks for help

Choke control rod should be pulled back to
apply the choke. Pushed forward to un-
choke.

When you say push choke in, I presume you
are pushing forward on the control rod, and
this is actually closing the butterfly and
applying the choke. Are you sure you put
the choke shaft and butterfly in the carb
correctly??? Because it sure sounds like
you got it put together wrong, and it's
actually flapping the wrong way. Not sure
if it's possible to do (put together all
messed up like that), but sure sounds like
what you got going on.

The choke will close pushing forward about 3/4 of the way and pulling it back as you would normally close all the way, pulling choke rod from seat

I use a cable to set the choke on my Farmall C.
Push on the cable to set the choke, pull on the
cable to open..backwards from what you would
think.

There is no adjustment. Something is bent, broken, and/or installed incorrectly.

Open is open, closed is closed. There is no specific position for the rod, open or closed. Wherever the rod ends up is where it ends up.

Yours is operating backwards, and sounds like it's going "over center" when you pull the rod too?

Hello bigreddd welcome to YT! You have something
not assembled correctly or if the kit came with a new
shaft and you have tried to install that it may not be
the right shaft. Look at the carb sold by YT in the link.
This is the position the choke lever should set when
the choke is open. In this position the choke plate
should be horizontal in the carb airway not restricting
any flow. When the choke rod is pulled back the back
of the choke plate should drop down and meet the
bottom of the carb airway to close it and provide
choke. To properly position a choke or throttle plate in
a carb run the attachment screws down snug then
back them off just a hair. Use the shaft lever to gently
hold the plate in the closed position at the same time
tap the throttle plate a few times with the blade of your
screwdriver. Continuing to gently hold the lever closed
tighten the attachment screws. This will center the
plate properly.
