more cub questions

Thank you to all who posted on my last post concerning my cub. I have another question however, i am having some noise coming from the transmission and it will
not stay in third gear. If i stop and shift to third and let off the clutch it will spit it right out and the pto gear just grinds in or out of a forward gear,
all the gears seem a little louder than i am used to. I am historically a ford guy and am new to this red iron but am told they have rougher cut gears and can
have a hum to the rear end. After running it last summer i changed all the fluids and all where free of any shavings or glitter so i dont think i have
catastrophic damage. is this an simple fix or am i looking at a project for this winter.
thanks Nate

In my opinion this is a winter project, bad bearings or gears are causing it to pop out of gear. As for your PTO the Cub does not have a live PTO so the clutch has to be pushed and the tractor stopped to engage it otherwise during engagement it will just grind. If you mean it grinds constantly when engaged this again will be bad
bearings or gears.

50+ cub owner here..... They are all noisy in the transmission and final drives. It's knowing how much noise is acceptable. They will never, even with all new bearings be as quiet as a Ford.

Popping out of gear? Remove the shift plate, look inside. Could be as simple as a bent or broken shifter fork. Worst case a bad fear .... Unlikely.
