MF 35 (1955)

Greetings. I'm new on here. I have a '55 MF 35 and last week I broke the leveling box assembly on the right side as you look at the back of the tractor. I bought a new one from Yesterday's Tractor. While waiting for it come, I began taking apart the old so I can just put the new one on. Everything has come apart pretty well with the exception of the bolt the secures the short sway chain to the lower lift arm. My question: is this pressed in? threaded? or just fit into the hole. I've tried pounding it out and backing out with a ratchet and neither make a dent in this coming out. Next I was planning to heat it. Any advice?

Hello John welcome to YT! Unless you purchased a
used assembly that includes more than what is shown
in a picture of a new assembly I do not think you will
need to remove that sway chain or the lower lift arm.
Per the picture of the part shown in the link you will
just pull the pin that connects the leveling assembly to
the lower lift arm and attach the new one at that point.
Let me know if you want to remove the whole lower lift
arm for some other reason. If you ordered by phone to
see all the parts YT offers for you MF 35 go to the top
of the forum page and click the big rectangle that says
Tractor Parts then select Massey Ferguson and then
the 35 model.

Thank you for the reply. I sent a picture along with this message. The leveling box arm straddles the lower lift arm and the bolt serves both the leveling box arm and sway chain. It really looks like it would just pop out but it sure doesn't!

Okay you straightened me out there. Get rough with it! How big of a breaker bar you got? Will a socket fit on there? Looks kind of close the way that chain tab is bent to raise up near it. First get a big hammer like a 2 pounder, smack the head of the bolt as hard as you can as if you want to drive it in. If you have a sledge hammer hold it against the lift arm on the opposite side as a counter weight. You are just trying to move it the slightest bit to break the rust bond. After that get some penetrating oil on there and give it all you got with your breaker bar I would say it should twist loose. If need be put the nut back on and screw it even with the end of the bolt. Get something to set against the nut to protect it from direct hammer blows like a steel plate or an old nut clamped in a vise-grip, then try to pound it out. Heat would be a last resort. Most people do not do it but an occasional drop or two of oil on all those moving joints on a 3 point that are not greaseable is NOT the worst idea ever.
