Working With Oats

Cleaned a load of oats at the cleaning plant today. Beginning to look like spring work here. Got some video of the old Massey Super 90 moving things around the yard, emptying the air seeder tank, etc. And a jigsaw.

Enjoyed the video. Thanks for bringing us along for a day in your life.

Greatly enjoyed the video. How in the world do you keep the mice and rats out of that feed barn? If you say cats, how do you keep them from using it for a bathroom?

Thanks JW. I won't say that the occasional mouse does not show up but really not bad. Chop bin is off limits to cats since I have traps and the odd block of poison in there in case a rat or mouse ever shows up. Had a rat infestation a few years back so I had to go all out trapping and poisoning. Have not seen a rat in a few years and plan to keep it that way. Tree rats stick to the trees so far so thats ok too.

(quoted from post at 15:33:29 05/02/23) I do enjoy seeing someone else farming with old equipment especially equipment thats been in the family for many years .

It helps to have a brother who is a heavy duty mechanic nearby for emergencies. I tend to forget just how old some of this equipment is. If I'd been given a 40 year old tractor to start farming with in 1970 I'd have probably walked away in disgust. Old steel wheeled piece of junk. I guess the point is that 40 year old machinery is not as old as it used to be.

I went to school to be a diesel mechanic and its a
good thing I did if had to pay someone to maintain
my equipment overhauls clutchs hydraulic pumps
theres no way I could farm . And you are very right
40 years old isnt what 40 years old used to be .
John Deere introduced the 8000 series 29 years
ago thats a hard thing to think about .
