Drained the hydraulic oil from my 1978 John Deere 4640 PS and found alot of brown looking debris(brass?) where can it come from?

I have owned the tractor for four years, and i have drained the hyd oil a couple of times, and every time I fine brass in the hyd oil. This time i drained it from the hole where the screen is, and i think it was alittle bit more brass debris this time.

The 3 point jerks a little when being raised and the steering also jerks alittle, but other than that the tractor work fine.

I know both axles was removed and work was done many years ago.

Sure sounds like brake pads are coming loose..better pull your sump screen and look at it.

Photo of what youre calling bites of brass would help to clarify. Example
If youre using a the wrong oil ,with high sulfur for hypoid gears will do that.

Perhaps have the used oil analyzed by a lab? That way you wont be guessing as to what the material is. Cat dealers likely still have great oil analysis labs. Many oil distributors do too.

Thanks for the help.

Dont know what happen to the pic in the original post, but here it is.

Is it OK to keep driving a tractor with that kind of debris in the hydraulic oil or is it time to park it until it can be repaired? Spring fieldwork is right around the corner.
