I would think that it would be pretty unstable digging while on a trailer. But what is that under the trailer, almost looks like tracks???

looks to me that tractor wheels are on rollers. Thinking that differential braking would provide some sort of steering.
Pretty rube goldberg if you ask me.

I would hazard to guess that the trailer wheels are on pivoting arms. Lower the wheels for transport and raise the wheels for track use. How the tracks are powered I haven't a clue.
