Trailer Clearance Light Bar Wiring?

The middle light on the row of little clearance lights between my ramps was out, so I pulled the bar off. Does not seem to be any fix to it, so I ordered a new unit. The new one appears to come with a ground wire, but I found only one wire going into the existing set of lights, and no apparent ground. I am not sure how to wire the new unit. The new one is LED, and the trailer is a 2016, so I assume they are LED lights also. Do I wire the ground up, or ignore it?

Thanks,
Tim

All Lamps both LED and conventional must have a ground to operate. The ground may be within a screw or tab on the back. No electricity that will light a marker lamp can flow through air. Jim

The old lights were grounded to the light frame, when it was bolted on the ground was made. You can ground the new lights to a mounting screw (clean the paint off) and one wire to the power and be done .

Not on a 3 lite bar that goes in the center of the trailer or truck. According to DOT regs, the 3 lite bar is called ID LIGHTS to identify the trailer/truck is 80 inches or more wide. The 3 lites are equally spaced not less than 6 inched apart and not more than 12 inches apart.

Ignore it, and you'll find out right quick that was a mistake. The light won't work.

Use one of the screws that you use to mount the light for your ground. The white wire has a convenient eyelet on the end of it for that express purpose. I've replaced several of these bars and they all had eyelets on the white wire.

In fact I got sick of replacing them because where they are on the trailer they get smashed. So I just got three 3/4" button lights and drilled holes in the trailer frame to mount them. Much lower clearance and not likely to get smashed.
