Am missing to get thsnks for any input its 12 volt positive ground with generator and regulator

ASSUMING the point gap is correctly set the most likely problem is an oily film, debris, or non-conductive oxide on the breaker point contacts.

Burnish them SHINY with a strip of white cardstock, then (with the points ''open'') flush off any debris with electrical contact cleaner, and allow to air-dry before again checking for spark.

Does the coil terminal with the wire on it from the distributor make a test light illuminate when the points are open and go off when the points close? Getting to that point and you are well on your way to getting it to run. I am linking a points ignition troubleshooting guide created by another member here. What I suggested above is part of his step 4. I feel it is important to assess the reaction of the test light in relation to open and closing of the point early in my diagnosis process. Carbon tracking, cracks or moisture can cause the spark produced by the coil to not come through the distributor and instead make its way to ground and not to the plugs.

If the points are closed and the ignition on there should be Zero voltage at the distributor connection/or the terminal omn the coil that connects there. if there is, that indicates that the points are either not making contact, or the connection to the points is not making contact. Jim
