I would have to know more details before I would blame the operator. Kids can seem to appear from nowhere sometimes. The operator may not
have had any idea the child was in the area.

Another horror story involving kids and tractors. I am so sad. When my son and daughter were children, they often visited their grandparents (my parents) on the family farm. My father wanted to give them rides on his John Deere with an enclosed cab. I refused to allow it. He never understood or agreed, and, yes, I was admittedly paranoid, but I have never regretted my firm decision.

(Re paranoid: I was, at the time, a newspaper reporter and had to cover the run-over death of my neighbor's visiting 6-year-old child who fell from a tractor while getting a ride. So call me paranoid, but covering a tragic event like that does tend to influence one's view of kids on tractor rides.)

That is so sad. That poor operator, and worse yet the parents. I'm glad I was so thoroughly taught to be safe and wary around our farms as a kid. There are so
many ways to get hurt. Even on a tractor ride. I don't know how its possible for the child to have fallen out of an enclosed cab without the operator having time
to intervene, but all the same its a horrible situation.

I wonder what type of latch JD uses on their/that cab doors?

Like a lever that swings down or a paddle that has to be pulled up, etc.???

Very sad situation.

Other news outlets are reporting the tractor was a JD 8230 and the door was ajar.

Tractors were meant for one person...the operator. They are not passenger vehicles. I blame the operator. A sure case of stupidity.
