1970 Ford 4400 - fuel issue

Hi - I have a new to me 1970 ford 4400 gasoline and I am
having trouble getting it to continue to run. The previous
owner replaced the mechanical fuel pump with an electric
one. The tractor started today and ran for maybe three
minutes and died. Subsequent to that it would start but run
maybe 10-15 seconds before dying. I thought maybe it was
starving for fuel due to junk in the tank so I drained the fuel
into a bucket. To confirm that was the case I then stuck the
fuel hose into the bucket and figured it would run because it
would no longer have issues getting fuel. Unfortunately still
didnt stay running. I then pulled the outlet side and
confirmed that there was good output flow from the pump,
so I dont believe its that.

Any thoughts? Carb rebuild in order? air flow issue? Any tips
I could try before going that route?

If you unhooked the fuel line before your fuel pump that only tells you the is fuel getting out of the tank. That is good to know but only part of the battle. It still has to get through the fuel pump, whatever kind of filter and past the float needle into the carb bowl. The carb should have a drain plug in it. Remove it and put something under it to catch the fuel. Turn the key on, it should flow a continuous stream and not slow to a dribble. If it slows to a dribble you have to find what is blocking its path. I tried to look at the carb to see if they have a fine screen in the fitting that screws into the carb where the fuel line connects. Nothing conclusive other then a dealer will charge you $66 dollars for the fitting. I am attaching a link to the manufacturers online parts catalog for your tractor.

This is a great tip. I appreciate your help and thoroughness!

How much are you loving this warm weather in MN? Its about time. Great to be outside tinkering on the toys again!

Yes it is great to be warm! I placed a link to a 3000 the first round, corrected it now. The clickable link in Classic will probably still show 3000 but will for to the right catalog. I do not think there is a way to fix that edits are only allowed in Modern View.
