JD 520 with Oliver manure spreader

Every spring I give my yard a good raking and spread the debris on my fields using this Oliver spreader I picked up several years ago. The gentleman I bought it from spent the winter bringing it back to life from the scrap pile. If i remember correctly i think I paid $800 for it.

We had a spreader like that when I was a kid. One more Oliver piece that went to the scrapper that should have been saved.
 
I do the very same thing, except I have an old john deere spreader and my 520 or 530 in front. I cheat a little, I burn a few leaves and pine needles just for the smell. It brings back a few memories from when I was a lot younger. enjoy your ride. john
 
I agree two nice machines. I should have got the spreader out Sunday as I picked up five loads of sticks on the Ranger while Kelsey mowed for Grandpa at his yard, we picked up our sticks too at our yard, she mowed the high spots.
Then this morning early bam, big wind takes out a box elder limb, mess to clean up tonight!

Our prayers for those with worse weather!

I see the placement of the axle on a front unloader spreader is different than on a traditional spreader.
This might make a better firewood hauler which I've seen so many spreaders relegated to.

The idea of a front unload spreader was to move the weight to the tractor for better traction when unloading...it didn't catch on and not many were made, which in the end makes them a collector item.
