My dad in front of the Case 730. We had traded the 730 on the 930 beside it and were preparing to drive the 730 in to the dealership. Fall of 1976.

Case 7 and 930

Was it a good trade ? How much difference between the two ? He looks a little melancholy about it. They are both good looking tractors. I enjoy your posts.

I can't remember the difference in price. Quite a difference in horsepower as the 730 was rated about 60 hp and the 930 was 84. A year after that I bought a Cozy cab to install on the 930. Probably the best after market cab you could get back then and it was pretty expensive. Near $3000 as I recall. But so worth it.

(quoted from post at 21:07:39 03/27/23) Thanks for the puzzle! I like both tractors, but I would love to have a new one of that pickup truck.
The Dude was a fancy looking truck. Another photo of it from July of 77.

While the 930 was a lot more power and a very comfortable tractor to operate, I think Id have had to find away to keep them both. And I understand the desire to have a cab tractor, but by 1976-77, add-on cabs were not nearly as nice as factory cabs.

Neighbor had a couple 730diesels and a 930and a 1030 all to work about 100 acres. We had a 830 gas and later a 930 western or standard looked like yours there. That hand clutch sucked if you had to use it a lot during the day. If just put it in gear and go for the day not to bad. Worked basckwards too had to push it while looking back to hitch up.

Those 30 series Case had the look and the performance. The 930's were at a bargain price in my area (rice fields) and they sold like crazy. They labored long and hard....

I would say this Cozy cab I added to the 930 was right up there with what the 70 series Case offered at the time for quality and comfort. AC was available but I went cheap and took the cab cooler (water spray) option. Not great but still worlds better than sitting out in the open in dust, heat, cold and sunburn.

I don't think hand clutch was an option for 7, 8 or 1030 tractors. I know some 930s had it but any that I drove were all foot clutch. Even the old six speed that I ran for a neighbour in 73.

Ive never seen a 930 with a foot clutch. If it wasnt for
the internet I wouldnt have guessed a foot clutch was
offered for the 930.

In this photo you can probably notice the foot clutch on the 930 we had. I only knew of one neighbour who had an older six speed 930 with hand clutch.

(quoted from post at 10:14:10 03/28/23) With that stack of rear weights I bet that ol girl could stretch the harness.
Wondered when somebody would comment on the weights. The previous owner had installed them and I don't know what they were from but they were not Case. Still not enough for those skinny 18.4x34s to make full use of the power of the 930. When we installed the cab I took the weights off thinking the cab would compensate for them. It didn''t but I guess those weights were too heavy to handle again and they never went back on. I think 18.4x38s would have been a much better tire option on this one.

In case you wondered why I needed a cab on the 930 these pictures will show. This was harvest 1977. Plenty of dust and wind to burn the face and eyes. In one photo I am carrying my parka which would be needed for part of the day. So next year's harvest in the comfort of the Cozy cab was just a giant step forward in comfort.
