John Deere 3020 Starter

Does the starter on the 3020 diesel need to be greased? There is a plug on the back that may be for a grease fitting. The 3020 is a 1964 with two 12 volt batteries.Thanks for any help.

Many starters had them plugs. There is a felt in there that
lines the bushings the bushings have an oblong hole and
that felt rides right on the shaft. Remove plug and give it
a squirt of gear oil and replace plug.
