Going to look at some tractors that are for sale, looking for a larger replacement for a small Massey for haying (small squares). Im not as familiar with these larger MFs as the smaller ones - anything beyond the obvious to keep an eye out for? All 2wd with cabs. Thanks.

There were plenty of those around these parts over the years, were pretty good old workers. The 2000 series had some transmission issues though. They seemed to get it worked out by the 3000 series.

1105/1135 and 699 are two different classes of tractors. 699 is about 10 years newer, and about an 80HP handy chore tractor. The 1105 and 1135's are big 100+ HP 1970's tillage brutes.

We demonstrated a new 699 when I was a kid. The shifting was kind of puzzling with 3 levers all side by side on the floor. There was two turtle-rabbit shifters and a 123R as I recall

I ran both an 1105 and an 1135 for several years, pretty simple and reliable. Both 354 6 cylinder Perkins, 3 speed transmission with multi power. 540 or 1000 rpm pto with bolt on stub shafts. If either one of them is in good shape that would be my preference.

Weak to point of the 11x5 is the hydraulics. The rest of them is pretty solid. Generally from a start you need to increase engine speed to get hydraulics to kick in. They should remain working after returning to idle. If the hydraulics drop out at idle it can be a sign of a worn charge pump.

Only other down point is slow travel speed if that matters to you.

Well, looked at some tractors. Most of the larger tractors were rough or had issues. Lots of bad rust, one 1135 would pop out of high range. Looked at a 270 and 175 that were both decent. Time to keep looking.
