I was sold what i velive to be a 601 bit the trabsmisson has 641 stamped in it it has a 3 spe3d trans with reverse does anyone have any helpful tips to identify?

601 was the series, 641 is a model within
the 601 series with four-speed
transmission, three point hitch, and PTO.
Your transmission should be a four-speed
plus reverse not a three speed. Here are
the models within the 601 series:

611 Select-O-Speed, no PTO
621 Four-speed, no PTO or 3-point
631 Four-speed, no PTO
641 Four-speed
651 Five-speed
661 Five-speed, live PTO
671 Select-O-Speed
681 Select-O-Speed, dual-speed PTO

That's weird, if it's a Ford you have to
back up four tractor generations to the 2N
or 9N to find a three-speed transmission.
As a new user you'd probably have trouble
posting some pictures. Probably you
should look through the link below to see
if you can ID the tractor

It cant be a 601 series and be a 3 speed. They didnt make that combination.

Something has to give. :)

Yall are right it is a 4 speed i didnt realize it was by the reverse sorry but with the 641 stamoed in the transmisson doesnt that make it a 641 rather than a 601? Thanks

Sure sounds like a 641. Are you saying that the sticker on
the hood says 601? IIRC sometime back, on the Ford
board, one of the experts summarized when Ford
stickered these tractors as 641 vs. 601. Dads 1958 641 is
stickered as such, but I think at some point they stopped
doing that, and just labeled all sub-models as 601s.
