Was about the software in a Hummer tail light.
Well, now GM has confirmed that the replacement of one Hummer tail light is $3,000. Get the pair for $6,000. Insurance companies will notice.

Our daughters Yukon has that. SIL was
able to fix the taillight by breaking the
seal replaced some little thing(I forget
the details) then reseal it(glue) for
much less.

Missed the original post. But found this. Assuming it was for the Hummer EV?

I once took a dreamal and cut off wheel and cut a square out of a trailer tailight housing and replaced the bulb. Then i hot glued the cut out back in.

A month ago the taillights on my daughters 2021
F250 were stolen out of her driveway. All caught on
door cam. 2 guys pulled up, one clicked a FOB and
unlocked the tailgate, 2 minutes later taillights
removed and theyre gone. Insurance paid her
$3000. Husband gets replaced for $1800 but dealer
charged $300 to reinstall.
Im surprised they didnt take the tailgate. All this in
Grand Prairie Texas, chop shop capital of Texas.

I have a friend that works at a Ford dealership. One of his customers had bought a 2023 F250 with all the toots, whistles and bangs. Two weeks after buying it he backed into something and broke a tail light. $1800 to replace it. Part of the lane change alert system is in the tail light assembly. With all of the fancy LED run, tail and stop lights they are going to get very expensive to replace when they go bad. I can see that in the future some of these new cars will be totaled just because of the cost of replacing the the lights. People will be in for a surprise....

And its not just lighting. I priced out
powered lift gate struts for a small suv
yesterday and they were $763 each. I
thought the gas ones were bad at $60-$80
each!

To be honest I wouldn't pay $6000 for a Hummer - let alone just the taillights for a Hummer.

Best truck I've bought in the last 5 years was a 1992 F250 with a 351 and a 5 speed. Paid $1900 for it 3 years ago and drove it a year just changing the oil. Then I spent $700 and replaced the bed that was the wrong color, the two rusted front fenders, a fuel tank and all 4 shocks. With the entire truck now Ford YO white it looked pretty good and ran like a champ. About a year after I did all that work a guy ran a stop sign and I T boned him - taking out the grill, hood, front fenders and bumper. His insurance paid me $4000 and let me keep the truck. I spent about 5 hours online looking and bought an entire front end that is Ford YO white for $400 and bought a new set of headlights. My 10 year-old helped me bolt the new front end onto the truck and it was back on the road in a week - my neighbor thought I bought another one exactly like I had.

The truck is now free and I had $1000 to buy gas and tires. Since I took the money and kept the truck the title is still clear. Not that it matters - that truck isn't going anywhere but to work.

Meanwhile my good garage queen 1999 F250SD with about 1/3 the mileage of the 1992 had to have $3500 spent on a transmission and $130 for a starter (and other parts) - and I have yet to own it a year.

Things like this caused my divorce from General Motors (AKA General Mediocrity) become permanent and irrevocable.

A friend has a Lincoln & the water pump went out. Pump is inside the engine. Have to
pull the engine to get to it. Have to take the front end off to pull the engine. Cost
him over 3 grand to replace the pump!

hat is even dumber than the starter under the intake manifold.
