Oliver and Minneapolis Moline FWA

Hello. I'm continuing my research on vintage tractors and was wondering if anybody could tell me if these two companies designed their own FWA axles or if it was an outside vendor?

I was a young mechanic working at a MM
Dealer in 1964 to 68. We sold a few 4x4 G6
and up to G706. The first ones came from
Elwood mfg. At Elwood Il. MM just shipped
tractor to them. Then sometime later
started casting the transmission case to
take the front gear box. My neighbor had a
560D with a front wheel drive from them.
Ihc did the same thing. They had new army
truck front axles. The later Molines we
got had reduction hub axles.

Oliver started offering FWA in 1961 on the A series 18 and 1900.
Only a hand full built before the B series came out in 62 so A
series are very rare. Axle was a Clark. Axle carrier on back was
all Oliver.

Thanks for the quick reply's guys. Were some of the Moline axles Coleman's? The G706s look like Coleman's to me but I don't have a trained eye yet

And one more thing. Which company between these two are credited for being first with fwa? I believe ih started putting Coleman's on from the factory 806s in 63 or 64?

How about the 1915 Model T Ford.

Oliver used to make the claim of being the first factory installed, but I think it's documented that MM factory
installed some first.

There isnt a lot of info on the subject but it sounds like MM was first out of the factory but Oliver beat them to the Nebraska test. I think it's a good story to hear about some of these gone but not forgotten tractor companies innovations that lead to modern technology.
