I need a push button Normally open switch

This 30 year old garden tractor has a gremlin in the ignition switch.

The starter won't work. I hear a clicking sound when I turn the key to start, no starter.
I easily applied 12v to the starter solenoid and the starter worked just fine.

JD has a complicated ignition switch that plugs into a multi pin plug. I think either the plug is oxidized or the ignition switch is bad. Dang gremlins.

I need to see if I have a used push button switch or buy one.
A PBNO would make the repair easy.
No kids will be driving this garden tractor.
I'll look for a 12v wire coming from the ignition switch so no one can accidently push the starter button.

Do you have a recommendation for a (cheap) push button switch?

as far as kids driving it if you find a wire on the key switch thats hot only when the key is turned on then you wont have to worry about the starter being activated accidently.

If you really want to bypass the safety's, then just come off the start position of the existing switch and go directly to the starter solenoid.

Switch---Go to Surplus Center.

Before you do that though, Clean all the safety switch connections. I had a Deere mower that would do exactly what you are describing. It had 4 safety switches after the ignition switch. After I cleaned up all the connections, it worked like it should. You get a lot of voltage loss through all those connections if they are dirty or corroded. After that, it just became an annual maintenance issue. Good Luck.

gene i just called and told him about the kit and how he could build his own for less all it takes is just MORE current to that trip wire and the thing will start.

FWIW I classify such as Spring Return to Normally OPEN, Momentary Push Contact CLOSE, but I've seen many other such similar descriptions. As long as its Voltage Withstand rating, Current rating and necessary weatherproof is adequate it should be a cheap simple readily available item on Amazon or E Bay etc. See if any other sparkies agree ??

You got this easy peasey

The ih tractors use normally open switch . From the 60 series and 06 series also as an example. It is rated for the starting current.

I'm thinking you hit the nail on the head..
A safety switch is my gremlin.
A PBNO will wire around the switches.

Good deal jm, all it is is just a cube relay in a socket plus some wire. The relay can operate at a lower amperage to kick in the start relay.
