Going for paint

Took my 1938 Massey Harris to the painters today. Needs a bit of body work but not much because I had new fenders fabricated for it as the old ones where pretty rough. Decided to go with fancy and shiny instead of looking like it did out of the factory. My great uncle bought it new so I am the second owner. Will try to post the progress of the work and painting. Not sure of the timeline but hope to have it back by spring early summer.

1938...last of the boiler plate frames ! As grandpa said, getting a new set of duds.
Looking forward to seeing it when finished.

Your painter will have a preference in what he likes and is used to working with. I would go with what he recommends. The outcome would be better if you didn't make him use something he didn't like. Is it an automotive paint shop? Since the tractor will be red it would be more durable if automotive paint is used. The color red is the most prone to fade and automotive paint will be more colorfast. On oil based paints some brands, mainly Valspar you would almost see it fading daily. If an oil based enamel is used I would recommend Rustoleum Farm and Implement paint. I painted a kubota tractor 14 years ago with it and it's just now beginning show fading. I painted the tractor first with Valspar and it faded in a month what the Rustoleum has done in 14 years.

Thanks Stephen. They have restored several tractors that I have been around at tractor pulls in the past. Thats all they are doing now is vintage tractors. Very confident it will be done right. Im lucky in away too as the only time it will be outside is at pulls and shows etc.

Yes Richard that is the belt pulley that came with the tractor. They are a great looking tractor with that frame design. A bit more difficult to work on though.

Hi Ultradog. It is a nice trailer for hauling smaller tractors on for sure. The truck is awesome as well. It has the 6 speed manual transmission in it and the Diesel engine. I struggled with the decision to paint or not to paint the 25 as I like the working clothes look as well. Round spoked wheels are nice.

Awww, and I liked it just the way it is. But I knew this day was coming. Looking forward to the 25 being back to its shining glory. What's really special is its still in the family. Steve
