Sleep Apnea

Requires a body mass index below 35 before being considered for inspire.mines 42 which leaves me out.if I lose weight to bring my bmi down it can also lessen the severity of my sleep apnea.so guess what Im
Fixin to do.

Raising the head of the bed to a 20-degree-or-so incline may not work quite as well as a CPAP, but it has been a WHOLE lot better than a level bed for me.

(quoted from post at 18:34:33 01/13/23) Has anyone found an alternative to the mask and machine? I saw an advertisement for a product called Inspire,

I don t know if this applies in your case but my sleep study showed I had sleep apnea only when I was on my back. Recommendation was to get a pocket sewed onto the back of a T-shirt that could hold a tennis ball in it to keep me from sleeping in that position. Been doing that ever since.

Exercise and weight loss will also give you a number of years before you have heart problems, and foot and leg problems and diabetes. The choice is virtually between being homebound needing daily help and being active and doing the things you want.

100% right. It's all about quantity of life. Do I want to be on the elliptical for ten minutes every morning? No. Would I rather be
on dialysis five hours a day or be limited in what I can do so I don't dislodge a pacemaker instead? NO!

My sister, a retired RN, tried the stupid mask and it didn't work. She found a doctor that makes an appliance that fits in your mouth. I have not seen it. She said they lazer measured her mouth and made a plastic thing that goes in and holds her tongue in place. She swears by it.

I have been using the machine for 6-7 years now.and my unit doesnt use a mask. Just two pronged nose piece with a head strap to hold it on. They told me that this only works if you sleep with your mouth closed, and during sleep test they found I did sleep with my mouth shut. I am not particularly over weight currently weighing 213lb and 6 feet tall. Doctors told me part of the reason I have sleep apnea is because I have a thick neck. He measured my neck at 18 inches, and told me that many people that lift weights and do body building develop thick neck muscles. And the muscles in your neck act the same as fat , simply crushing your air pipe flat while you sleep.

throw the mask away and buy a red tractor then you will have a good nights sleep getting all inspired about it.

That sleeping on your back thing sure applied to me. My mind got trained so that I couldn't sleep that way unless I accidentally
rolled over somehow. Now that I can sleep on my back, my mind still won't get used to it. I'm very slowly getting so I can, but the
progress is a snails pace. I had to start by sleeping at an angle, partially propped up against a big body pillow, but I'm finally
getting to where I can fall asleep flat on my back if I'm tired enough. No trouble breathing now when I do though.

I need an alternative. The mask and machine is doing nothing for me. The only thing the doctor has done for me is give me an RX for speed designed for sleep apnea patients.

I think that what a friend has is Inspire. He had something the size of a credit card up by his shoulder, a sensor in one lung and a wire in his tongue that keeps it from relaxing and cutting off his airway. It's all bluetoothed to a phone that medical professionals can adjust it with.

A sock and a couple safety pins works to hold the tennis
ball too.

Also need to figure out where the problem is. Many of the
treatments are aimed at throat/younger issues. I have
nasal cavity issues, still trying to figure it out. I cant use
an air pressure device as I am missing an ear drum.
