If you work for a liveing, then why do you kill yourself working? 'Tuco'(Eli WallecK) 'The Good, the Bad,and the Ugly'. Kind of describes a lot of us.

And Tucos situation better? Wasnt he left standing, precariously balanced, with a rope around his neck? Oh yeah, that sounds better than work.

I worked a lot of overtime, as a millwright in a paper mill, from about age 25 to over 50, then I started tapering off. I once worked 62 days without a day off, that's as bad as farming! Then at 58 I retired, and been enjoying it for 13 years!

it's a really important and contradictory issue. perhaps it's only tractor related in that it's tractors that significantly ended human and animal labor that shortened lives ... and still does in many places. i hesitate but will include the similar ironic admonition over the gate to auschwitz ...

Arbeit macht frei is a German phrase meaning "Work sets you free" or "Work makes one free".

A fellow walked up to a worker in a ditch and asked what was he doing. The worker replied,
'' I digga the ditch to maka the mon to buya the food to maka the strength to digga the ditch.''

Well, many men put themselves in a similar lurch by putting a smaller noose
around the third finger on their left hand. lol there are those with guns and those who dig

I supervised an automatic transmission component manufacturing department for GM Hydra-Matic. My one jobsetter had worked 6 months 7 days a week. I asked him what day the next week he was taking off. He said he wasn't. I told him that he would either take a personal day off or that I would throw him out on a madeup shop rules violation. We joked about it later. He didn't know what to do all day at home with 4 kids.
BTW During his time working for me he was awarded 2 maximum suggestion awards of $20,000 each in one year. Find me a snowflake to do all that!

I worked for the government for 25 years. I worked thousands of hours of overtime in those 25 years. During my last 10 years of employment, there would only be a half dozen days at most in the calendar year that i didnt get paid. I was on the payroll for my regular scheduled shift, working overtime on my days off, taking a vacation day because my leave hours were maxed or i was utilizing my sick leave benefits.

My wife and I are both semiretired would be the correct term I guess. We both stay busy on various projects and she is the Town librarian part time. Our financial advisor always ask us why we still work. Our reply is thats what we do. Just habit at this point I guess. Suspect lots of people have the same reply.
