Is over in S.E. VA!! No more pickups
up and down the road or dogs yapping
across the fields! Folks brought me
a ham last week and some tenderloin
tonight. I do love some venison
fried up and cooked in gravy. Add
mashed spuds and I'm asleep and hour
after eating!!

Deer season (legal at least) ended January 1, 2023, except in deer reduction zone. That area ends January 31. We are not in reduction zone here. Just 10 minutes ago, (2 hours after sunset) a spotlighter made 3 passes looking for next year's trophy I guess. To a lot of people around here, deer hunting season is any time they see a deer, as long as they don't get caught.

This is a popular time of year for coyote hunting. A lot of guys will spotlight fields and take notes of where they see coyote eyes frequently. Then ask for permission to hunt the best areas. Just a possibility.

I look forward to the last day, No more loud trucks racing up and down the road, no more mud covered roads from the trucks coming out of the hunting zones. And also there are no speed limits for truck hunters apparently. And people standing in the middle of the road with rifles looking in the woods. It's a happy day in Central Va.

Season ends tomorrow night for us in WI. I have a buck tag to fill. I watched the first half of the Packer game last Sunday and when I drove past my stand, a buck was there, but of course I wasn't. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

I'm with you there.

I'm always glad to see deer season come to pass. I use to hunt myself, but now just give others permission to hunt. But it's always nice when it's over. No more hunters driving around. No more people wheeling in the driveway just to chit chat. Just pull in to say they are hunting and seen you out. Interrupting you while your trying to get your chores done before dark. And you don't want to be rude, so you feel obligated to talk for a bit. It just gets old after awhile. And in my state, they have early youth hunt, and late doe season, and all this crap. I wish they would just go back to the 10 day regular season and that's it (other than archery and muzzle loading). Get it over and done with.

If it was just one bunch, all the glad handing wouldn't be so bad. But I have 3 bunches. When one bunch is gone, another bunch shows up. It just gets old after awhile.

I think there is yet another week deer season in Texas. Funny, the deer seem to know when to be careful. I have some deer that come on my property and as soon as it was deer season they got very skittish. The farter it got into deer season I practically never saw them. I used to be able to walk about 100' from them before they ran and now if they see me at all they run.

In MI they are lousy with deer. I wish they would up the limit so they would get rid of more deer. They got about 6or7 off my place this year. Only 50 more to go and the total herd number would be gone. More will just move in as they leave though. Like wood chucks deer serve no good purpose.

I've heard about states that have laws that allow dogs to run across land they have no permission to be on. Luckly in Kansas that just makes them a running target.
