Does anyone make an electric DA for auto body work. Im wondering if Harbor Freight makes one.
Thanks for your help.

I've been in the auto body business most of my adult life, and I've never heard of a DA sander that was anything but air. That doesn't mean there are none, it might just mean they would be hard to find.

Seems to me there are some for woodworking. Maybe they would work for auto body?

I didnt go to the store yet, but I was wondering the same thing if HF sells one. What Im seeing in the reviews of the HF electric orbit sanders is that the pads are hook and loop (velcro) not the fabric/foam style the air sanders use for peel and stick discs. Maybe the pad could be changed? I have a body to sand/strip and I would much rather listen to an electric than hear my compressor run for hours.

DA stands for "dual action". The sander will spin in a circular motion like a drill or, when unlocked, will rotate in a random orbiting motion leaving a smoother scratch pattern instead of a swirl. The spinning wheel will remove material faster, but leaves a rougher finish.
I m not familiar with any electric true D/A sanders, but there are many random orbit sanders marketed as D/A s.

Many places sell electric DA sanders.
It may take a 5 hp air compressor to power a pneumatic DA,
Electric DA sanders use a fractional hp electric motor.
My electric DA has holes in the sandpaper to exhaust the dust.
Paper is attached with velcro.

There are a few electric.

The electric may work fine but if you have an air compressor with the capacity, air powered will be much easier to find. I have been using Ingersolll for many years with no problems.

Glad to see someone else post this. DA, doesn't mean the same to everyone I guess. True DA sanders can either spin one one axis only and can be used for grinding, or when unlocked can freely rotate on a second and random orbit.

The first have a horizontal grip like this https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81WVDq4oNhL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

The second are held in the palm of your hand are known as ROS. Random Orbit Sanders. They have no second function for grinding.

Lots of the second available in electric, I know of none of the first type in electric.
