Finally Moved Some Snow

After staggering through snowbanks all over my yard for what seems like weeks I finally got the JD 2140 and snowblower going this afternoon and made the yard passable. Did not get to the driveway yet. I must say the little diesel started up real well at +5F. Four hours of block heater plugged in of course. I was thinking of this old photo from almost exactly 50 years ago showing me using the Cockshutt 50 and nine foot blade to clear the yard.

Mother nature has removed all the snow we got . From a week ago of -7 degrees F to +55 tonight . Like they saw if ya don't like the weather in the Buckeye just wait a min. an it will change . For once in a long time i am ready for bad weather . Now had i dragged my feet and not even looked at the old snow blower then we would have got hammered . Like in years past we get a decent snow storm and i would go out to fire up the snow blower and it would not run and i would be outside fixen it , the War Dept . would get so mad due to the fact i was usen her hair dryer top keep my hands warm , three four hours working on it to get it going to use for and hour and a half . This year we went all over it and found that the new carb i put on two years ago was junk and i always ran it out of gas when i was done and had installed a fuel shut off valve . So ordered in a new junk carb and got that on in 65 degree weather also found the blower housing was rusted thru so swapped that out for a good one , installed a new friction drive wheel , change oil filled the worm drive greased it aired up the tires fixed the shift lever and test run it . Now it will never be needed this year. And that does not break my heart.

(quoted from post at 20:07:06 12/29/22) Looks like the same blower as mine. Think mine is a Geo. B White made in Canada.
Thats a nice looking snow blower too. Similar but mine is a McKee Econo plow made in Canada almost 50 years ago. Its only rated for a 45 horsepower tractor so I'm pushing my luck with this 2140 at over 70 hp. I'd like to have a bigger blower with an extra foot in width and bigger diameter fan.

Sometimes it works that way but I've had this blower on the tractor ready to go for probably a month now.
And this snow isn't going anywhere til April so there are a few hours of work ahead of me I'm thinking.

Nothing wrong with some extra hp when
blowing, just have to remember not use all
70 hp when it is acting as a blade.

I sure like seeing pictures of that Cockshutt. By the time our Christmas storm weather was over, we had a foot of snow on the level. Temperatures have been warming ever since and expected to reach as high as 50F today Dec/29. And start raining over night into New Years Eve. So our snow is disappearing nearly as fast as it came. And that is fine with me, but it can be hard on the winter wheat

Hi rusty6. Hope you and your family had a great Christmas. I put 6 hours on my tractor a few days ago pushing snow out of the yard while the chinook was happening. Im going to have to put my chains on next snow fall because the yard is solid ice now.
