Going to be warm enough to work in my PBB

PBB, Post Beam Building.
Hope no one gets upset because they don't have a PBB!
I got lucky. At the end of 2019 I decided to buy my first tractor with a cab and I can't see leaving my tractors outside.
So I also ordered a PBB, which took 3 months to build. I'm glad I ordered the PBB when I did because the price of the same PBB is more than doubled.
I keep my retired Jubilee in my MMW.
Mini Menards Warehouse is an old barn with a floor I salvaged. I used #9 wire to pull the building back in shape. Put osb siding on it, and then vinyl siding and an overhead door.
Used 2x6 and made rafters. I store my used lumber in my MMW along with my retired Jubilee.
Planning to use my unheated PBB to see if the new 6v coil and ballast I recently ordered have the same resistance and use the same voltage. I'm doing this for my son who wants to keep the Jubilee after I'm gone.
I can't believe how hard it is to get the right coil and ballast for the old girl. I've learned why most people convert to a 12v coil or electronic ing.
BYW, the man who I bought the Jubilee from gave me a complete shop manual for the old girl which I've passed on to my boy. The previous owner also converted it to 12v but didn't know how to wire in the ammeter. I replaced all the wiring and started over from scratch.
I'm going to work in my unheated PBB because there is a chance of rain, 55 degrees and I have a complete set of tools in my PBB.
Retired old men have to invent something to do. Yes, I have too much time on my hands.
Do you have to invent something to do too?

Luckily I don't have to invent things to keep my fingers and mind busy but I'm glad to see that you do instead of letting your mind and body rot on a couch.
One of my retirement hobbies has turned into a profitable buisiness that I can spend as much, or little tine with as I please. The money part is motivational but not needed to pay the bills. So guess what? it goes toward more man toys! LOL

I buy man toys too. I have to convince myself I need new toys.
Until I convince myself I really need expensive voltmeters, I'll keep my old FREE meters. They work well for me.

I wish my son and daughter had more room for some of my toys I no longer use and have no desire to sell.

Invent stuff to do? My wife takes care of for me. I retired early 2008 and have been busier now than when I went in to my employer. I also need to build another barn/shop/shed/garage, what ever the tax appraiser wants to call it.

Ft. Wayne, Ind. has an organization called Bild Gild where for $25 a month you can spend the day using their equipment to build whatever you want. They have hi-tech machines average people wouldn't afford and lessons on how to use them. Sounds like a good idea for retired people. Also may be a good place to get together with like minded people.

George has been here and I think he will tell you I have enough projects to keep a man busy for years. have learned only way is get on one and stay till it is finished. Have acres of trees and sawmill but ever building I build is steel frame.

It has been my experience that once word finally got out that I had quietly retired, OTHER people took it upon themselves to invent things for me to do.

Usually major repairs to their abused machinery that they needed done yesterday-and for free. Or, on my own dime.

I had to tell more than a few that I could no longer afford to work on their stuff!

Good thing we don't live closer. I would never have to invent anything to do. You have too many projects for one man.

I have built many things in my lifetime.
My construction days are over.
I hire people to do my heavy lifting work.
My first pole barn took 7 guys 4 days to build.

My second pole barn took 7 amish/mennonites
2 days to build.
I did all the prep work. Leveled the ground.
Hauled in white rock, packed it in for the 6 inch concrete floor.

This took me 5 years to build a new house around an old 2 bedroom ranch.

I still have a young mind that makes fun of my old body.
My construction days are over.
Too much arthritis.
If I get the urge to build a house or PPB, I sit down and wait for the urge to pass. I know a man who builds pole barns to your specs. He too doesn't build pole barns. He sells them and a crew from DC metals in Davis County build them.

Never again will I attempt to build another house. I'll hire the work done.

(quoted from post at 12:57:18 12/29/22) [b:d3e8fbd91d]I prefer PBR[/b:d3e8fbd91d]

Not since Chris Shivers retired.
He is raising world class Brahman cows today.
I would not want anything to do with a PBR of that variety.
But will welcome an ice cold PBR of the barley pop kind.

George, I believe your buildings are properly called post FRAME buildings. True post beam buildings use heavy horizontal beams rather than trusses to support the roof.

I built my 30x40x10 post frame shop almost entirely by myself. My BIL helped me set the posts, and I pulled together a crew of my buddies to raise the trusses and pour concrete, but almost everthing else I did myself. It's still a work in progress, as I'm not quite done insulating it. It has a shingle roof and T1-11 siding, so it matches the house nicely.
