What should I use for shear pins it has Grade 8s in it now, I was thinking they should not be grade 8s maybe 5s or even 2s. just wondering .They are in the first u joint on the blower. Thanks Bryan

If on smooth shafts, and for certain a shear pin, grade 5 is where you might end up, but start with no mark hardware bolts and see if they shear. If not leave it. Grade 8 will tear things up. !!! Jim

Online parts catalog shows grade 5. I bought a couple to have for mine which I purchased this past December.

I make sure the the auger is greased and turns on the in power output shaft.
As far the bolts I use grade 3 (a36)that my hardware store sells in bulk.
I then make the bolts to the location of shear ,I use a hack saw and cut bolts in two places opposite ,I cut halfway in to make sure it shears where it supposed to.
I make two sets of spares.
Having had to straighten the impellers before on machines I got because they tried to take in rocks the you wants it to shear bolts for sure.

Grade 5.

I had a 70, never broke the main PTO shear pin, the auger shear pin many times.
