Bruce, many old homes and barns here in the south had steep roofs with wood shingles.
Would last so much longer and less prone to ever leak.

Nice painting. Ever hear of fair-haired blonde children being referred to as Tow Heads? Its really pretty much an outdated term nowadays. The two in the painting would certainly qualify. My dad would use it now and then I remember. Here's an explanation in the link below .......

I don't want to start any disagreements but Majorman's version looks to be the correct one although I gueass there might have been left hand plows.

How can an artist produce such detail? Is there some kind of computer aided stuff going on?

Question: Wouldn't he take the hay off before plowing?

I think at one time most plows were left hand. Why I do not know but a lot of horse drawn plows both walking and riding were left hand.

The last year my Grandpa plowed with horses, I was five years old. My cousin and I would walk behind looking for worms so we could go fishing down at the creek. We would also follow near the woods as every once and while we would score an arrowhead. I close my eyes and can still smell that fresh turned soil! Great memories of a simpler time.
