FLUID FILM How best to apply

Watch South Main Auto on YouTube and look for Eric? applying Fluid Film to a car in upstate New York (the Salt Belt he calls it). He does good work.

One way would be to use 3M Body Schutz Siphon Feed Applicator Gun. They are expensive but I think knock offs are available for less money. I have used garden sprayer with compressor hose connection so I can spray old engine oil.
Never tried garden sprayer and Fluid film.
I have used Fluid Film for number of years and it is good product IMO.

No need to warm it unless your in sub zero temperatures. Just spray or brush it on. Nothing fancy needed. It reacts when in contact. I usually just buy the aerosol cans in kits on EBay. They usually come with rubber plugs for holes in body panels. I have found that the kits are the cheapest way to buy the spray cans. If you already have the bulk product then just a hand sprayer would work fine.

yes to the Garden pump sprayer. It may clog your tip as it may have some wool remnants in it from manufacturing process. Contains Lanolin.

has factory rust proof. had to drop fuel tank. sprayed undercoating over tank , tank itself. replaced any brake lines showing corrosion. New brake calipers and roters. water pump new ignitOON (distributer etc Now fluid film under body. likely my last caDillac. Last week for this very ol computer with key pads off , sticking and or non working keys, Hope new computer can spell better LOL

I undercoat every other year (car & truck) with wool wax, I was using fluid film but the wool wax stays on much better. I buy a 5 gallon container because the car takes 2 gallon and the truck 3 gallon. I do it in the fall, when it's above 60 degrees outside, I bought the gun and wands form fluid film store online also bought the 1/2 plugs for drilling holes in rocker panels, doors etc. Drive them up on 4 ramps and go for it. I wear a tyvek suit with hood, a spray sock and good 3m respirator, takes me 3 hrs for car and 5 hrs for truck but they are both rust free.

I just bought a low miles nice truck and would like to keep it that way. Does this need application every year? What happens if it gets sprayed on brake rotors or exhaust systems? I would prefer an experienced shop to undercoat my truck at least the first time. Nearest application shop is 140 miles so I have been reading a lot of discussions about this but still on the fence.

I have gone to the Woolwax too.Same lanolin content, but lots of solids in it.I bought the gun and wands years ago when I had to do a crane that was being shipped overseas on an open deck.I use the wand with 4 orfices coming out the sides to spray inside frames, crossmembers, rocker panels, and doors.I used a Shutz gun at first, but that only gets line of sight, not inside anything.I don't have much use for the spray cans, they might be good for some underhood stuff, but but it has been watered down so much to fit through that tiny nozzle it doesn't do much.First year application on clean metal won't stay on all that well, but the second season application will. That was with Fluid Film,I haven't done any virgin vehicles with the Woolwax yet.

I have the 3' flexible 360 degree wand for going into frame rails, a 2' aluminum tube for spraying outside frame and wheel wells and a short tip to blast wherever. I'm thinking about using my Graco airless sprayer every other year, I could spray the underneath in less than 1 hour with that sprayer for sure. Then the next year do the complete and thorough job.
Of coarse I do an under body wash and let dry, before I undercoat. The 360 degree wand goes into the 1/2 holes I drilled, just pull the gun trigger while you move it in and out......It is a big mess but I spent a lot of money for my vehicles. I also use it on my Kubota, john deere and cub cadet mower decks every fall.

I spray the Fluid Film aerosol. I think that it is very important to consider the possibility of trapping wet dust in pockets next to the sheet metal. I spray WD-40 onto a few surfaces where it can penetrate down into those potential moisture trapping pockets. I give it 24 hours to penetrate, then apply the Fluid Film.

On this site is the only place I have ever heard of it? Just what is it and where is it sold? What is it supposed to do? How is it sold? Even at 79 years old you need to learn new things and this is one of them.

It can be bought on a spray can like any knocker loose product. It contains lanolin. I undercoat my pickup with it a few times a year with a spray can of it. It's a 2007, in Michigan, and still no rust except the tailgate is starting to pit a little from sliding salt blocks over it then the salt getting down inside. I took the tailgate off and sprayed some down inside of it. I could hear the rust falling off inside.

A week ago, my son and I had to unhook the manure spreader and the PTO shaft was frozen and wouldn't slide. We heated it and got it apart. I sprayed it with Fluid Film while it was hot and slid it back together. I unhooked it again Wednesday and it slid like new. If you have a hydraulic cylinder on something that's sitting outside, spray the ram with it and the chrome won't pit and rust.

FLUID FILM is manufactured using an intricate heating and blending process, which combines unrefined wool wax with selective polar agents and corrosion inhibitors, creating a unique, lanolin-based formulation that stops existing rust on contact. Penetrating on contact, it creates a fluid, self-healing barrier that is always active and will not chip or crack, protecting vehicle undercoating s and exposed metals for extended periods of time. Safe for use on all metals, it will stop pitting in chrome, will not harm most paints or plastic, and has exceptional lubricating properties, penetrating to stop squeaks and provide lasting lubricity for all moving parts. Electrically non conductive, FLUID FILM has a high flash point and a thin, flexible composition, making it a perfect protectant for battery terminals and electrical connections. It is available at any auto parts store, as well as all the major on line stores.
