I use an old igloo cooler and a 9w bulb to keep electrical tape warm,

water for the cat wasn't frozen. I store cordless batteries and chargers.
If you have a jumper battery to start your tractors you may want to make a igloo warming box. Warmer batteries work better.
My pole barn isn't insulated and last night it got down to 8 below.
One time my EVOM was in my truck tool box and the cold meter didn't work.
Thought you might want to use my idea in your unheated barns.
Merry Christmas. Stay warm.

I have a cooler with a 60 watt in it covering the cleanout on the sewer line. 1 above for a high today is just too cold, and my lagoon will freeze solid and the poo has to go somewhere. It will backup to the cleanout, up 4 feet and freeze. The heat will let it run down hill, and maybe get me to next week when it hits 56 deg.(check the bulb often)

I just take my meter in the house and save the light bill, and nonsense. You must have worked for the WPA at one time make work jobs like that I don't waste time on.

9 watts, pennies a month.
Each to their own.
I like warm electrical tape in the winter.
I like warm cordless batteries too. Cat needs water. Nice I don't have to walk to the house for water. Each to their own.
Happy Holidays.

Hey George. I'm trying to understand about keeping the cat's water from freezing. Do you put water in there with all the electronic stuff?

Here's a hot tip. George. When I want warm electrical tape in the winter I put it in my pants pocket for a couple minutes.

I took the gallon jug of water out to fill the cat's water bowl
before I took the pic.
I was surprised the water wasn't frozen and it was -8 outside
that morning.

John,
you may be right, charges do put out some heat.
Bottom line, it works. Cordless batteries don't like cold weather and won't charge when it's -8.
Electrical tape doesn't work well when it's -8.
I noticed I had some epoxy glue in my warming box.
I hoped people might like to make a warming box if they have a cold barn like I do. It works for me..

When I worked at a steel mill off lake michigan, I had to carry tape in my pockets too. That was 55 years ago.

Some people make a hot box to store welding rods in.
Some may use an old refrigerator and use a bigger light bulb.
I had down size my light bulb to 9w. The box got too hot.

1w-hr = 3.412 BTU times 9 = about 30 BTU per hour.
Very little heat.
I started using a 60 watt bulb. Too much heat.
Went to 25 watts. still too warm.
9 watts is perfect.
As you said some heat is generated by the chargers.
Bottom line it works. All made using FREE used parts.
Costs pennies to power.
Cordless batteries shouldn't freeze.
Cordless batteries won't charge when it's cold.
Tape works better. JB WELD doesn't freeze.
Cats water doesn't freeze. Save me trips to the house.
Its just an idea I thought I would share.
Merry Christmas.
