John Deere injection pump nightmare

Tractor type is John Deere 2040 3 cylinder diesel

Hey guys Im trying to figure out what is going on with my diesel injection pump. Im getting fuel out of it but very very low pressure. Nothing is coming out of the top bleeder hole but very strong pressure from the bottom bleeder hole.
Fuel lines were clogged with fine, silt. Junk clogged the filters, so replaced them pulled the whole thing apart. Cleaned it out checked everything it looked good. Put it back together now when you turn it over its still only getting low pressure. Like a drop every rotation

If you are getting silt in the line to plug them and again after cleaning them it has to be in the tank. I would pull the tank and wash it out good with some soap and water. The tank would be upside down to drain as I washed it out. Then when clean use only clean fuel and keep it clean like the cap says on it.

Hello user welcome to YT. Sorry not real familiar with that model. Does it have a manual fuel pump or ..fuel transfer pump.. as Deere calls it? See link. That should produce pulses of at least a couple tablespoons of fuel for each two turns of the engine. If you are not getting this then you will have to figure out why. That could be the pump is bad or something is blocking the fuel getting to it. I am not sure if the filter is before or after the pump, they are usually after. I see in Catguys reply he mentioned you need to find the source of the silt or fines and get it cleaned out. It would be nice to know if this was a running tractor you were using or a machine you are trying to revive?

Thats the weird thing. Theres no issues with fuel supply now the tank is good and new filters. Its getting fuel to the lower half of the pump when I open the bleeder screw it jects out when turning over. Theres just no pressure anywhere after that. It just sputters a dip at a time. Nothing is coming out of the injectors.

It was in a barn for 9 years then I got it running and It was running perfect. My brother used it parked it the a couple weeks later I tried starting it and got nothing. The filters were clogged up by by a fine silty grime which was all the way up into the pump as well which I think was from sitting for so long. The tank hadnt been topped off in a while so it got condensation which caused some of it. But sitting in a barn for so long doesnt help anything. It does have some fuel coming out but as drips

Also yes it does have the pre pump system. But its not getting fuel to the pump. Its getting it out of the pump. Lol

Soon one of our diesel pump posters will reply. Tell us what is written on the pump name plate! That will help. Jim

The lower screw on the advance plug is NOT a bleed screw, just a bolt to plug the advance gauge hole. The upper screw on the top cover can be bled after engine is running. The CRITICAL bleed screw is next to the pump name tag, there MUST be no air at that screw. If the silt got into the injection pump hydraulic head, it MAY have stuck the metering valve and/or the rotor plungers, and a complete tear down and cleaning is the only hope if pump is to work again. That's IF the rotor and head sleeve bore are not badly damaged already.

id think its got that algea from low sulpher fuel from what you describe. id say you need a cleaner for that .only 2 ways junk can be after filters in pump.as for pump its rebuild time thinking what bit you used it the algea has scored head parts.and soy diesel after setting long time can turn to a slimy sandy mess too. it can set up in the pump too
