This 4840 John Deere tractor with dirt scraper has sat unused for possibly 15-20 years...Its in a field beside Hwy 43 in southwestern Missouri..There has to be a story why it's just sitting there, blown engine-tranny-etc??It has decent tires and no one has stolen the weights-etc.

About 15 miles from the 4840 John Deere,a 1070 Case tractor sat unused for 20-30 years in the middle of a field .They just farmed around it...It was on Hwy 160 east of Frontenac,KS..One day we drove by there and I said something is missing..It had been hauled off.

I can remember a D-21 Allis sitting for years in a field near Blue Mound,KS..The sheet metal was missing and was probably stolen..One day it was no longer there..I know where a AC 190 XT has sit in a field for years...For years someone has farmed around a late 1940's Ford 2 ton truck near Lindsborg,KS..

I'm sure that lots on here know of some tractors-combines-trucks sitting in fields being farmed around...What are some that you have seen?Ones sitting in a farm yard dont count as some of us have plenty of them.

Ownership dispute? Bank lein? I ve seen more than one standing crop rot in the field because of a divorce....

Usually, when a tractor is farmed around it means the owner has died and most likely at the spot where the tractor sits. My mother's uncle died on his Oliver 1650 while cutting hay but in this case they did not leave the tractor in the field. Why the 4840 in your picture is sitting may be a different story altogether. In the Rochester, NY area there have been things such as cars, trucks, farm equipment sitting because while the owner can no longer operate them the owner has a nefarious reputation such as being involved with organized crime. Tractor weights, hub caps, and hood ornaments are not touched.

My 1456 was that way. After years of driveing by,I stopped, looked. It had the rear remotes ripped/torn off,The transmission had issues, and more...But it had a 'new' TA and clutch, and the rear tires were new. A few days later I made an offer. Didnt expect them to take it,but they did.Fifteen $100 bills and it was mine.5 years later everything is fixed and it is my big tractor.Yes It has an 806 grill and is 'butt ugly',but runs great

Sitting for that long next to a road I'm surprised vandals haven't busted out the windows. For some reason that's the first thing they like to do, at least in my area

I know of 4 that have setting for years, Case/IH about 2 miles from me. A JD 6600 combine, no header with back to road 2 miles south, couple JD 4440s in other places. All being farmed around.

One of those guys that buys a tractor in rough shape and when it dies he'll go buy another one that will die shortly and farm around it.

There is a nf 3020 sitting under a shed has been for 40 years. Years ago I asked about it as we had two. The son told me that his father had traded it for a Bush hog and the dealer never came and got it. Now the dealer and the owner are both dead and it is still sitting under the shed.

Not a tractor, but a fairly nice car, probably a mid 60's, don't remember the brand.

This was in the late 60's-early 70's. A car went through the fence, rancher fixed the fence, said whoever owns the car can have it when they paid for the fence.

It must have sat there 5 years or so, then one day it was gone.

On US 33 about 2 miles west of US29 Ruckersville VA a David Brown 990 has been sitting for about 25 years, owner had it for sale for about 3X what it was worth.Near Free Union VA a Fordson has been sitting in a yard for over 50 years.

South of Milan MO on Hwy 5 there is/was late 50s Dodge/Plymouth kid ran thru fence, wouldn't fix. Happened 67/68 and last time I was thru there 10-12 years ago it was still there. Just about rotted down, what could be seen in trees.

There is a property owner here with several nice looking tractors that just sit. He gets angry if anyone asks to buy one. One is a nice looking IH with cab, I would imagine around 706 size that is sitting inside a barn that fell down around it. Has been there 20+ years. I think they guy has enough money he just doesn't worry about something when it breaks.

During the 80s and early 90s there was a farm between Flemington and Ringoes that had an early John Deere 55 round back combine sitting about 200 feet back from the road in a field. It had been there much longer than that because of the trees growing up through it.The house and barns were decrepit but oddly there was no other machinery around. The renters just farmed around it. I never learned why that combine was there. In 1995 a developer bought the property and bulldozed everything for houses.

1937 Chevrolet 1 1/2 dump truck on my third cousins farm. His Dad drove up in the field by the house, shut off the truck, got out and had a heart attack and died. He refused to ever move the truck. He is now in a nursing home and his boys have most of the farm, but as long as he is alive he owns where the truck sits. Many tried to buy it when it was is good shape. It is pretty rough now, one fender and door fell off. I have pictures but not available at this time.

was thinking it was a Buick. It wasn't a old car when it was chained for damages .I though it was removed a few years ago .I will ask the owner's son if is gone or just covered in brush.

20 years.it set exhaust uncovered a year.then went by on my way to adm with soybeans, they had jumpers hooked to it.stuck. they did cover exhaust but kinda late. belongs to buntin on other side of road just south of verdaIla road on 43.
around curve north of bronaugh on west dide sets either a 3010 or 4010 in a toppling down quansit wood structure barn. a lite green house and just north of it pn other side is a gleaner setting about 20 years also.
i travel that road lots maybe 3 loads a day in fall, winter and spring and i see lots.

My son has a gravel pit in Alabama, when I was down there for Thanksgiving we found a 4555 that had been setting for 15 or more years, the owners son said the transmission was slipping so they parked it,,told us we could look it over and would sell it cheap,, we took a new set of batterys and a fuel filter ,,and it started up, would move back and forth (had a flat tire on the front),,2 wheel drive Quad range,,clutch probable slipped,,I think he is going to buy it to run a round bale mulcher for reseeding...He gets a kick out of bringing one back to Life..

I Remember a John Deere combine that he parked on a hill. when Joey came back it was at the bottom :? seems suspicious to me, how bout you. It shouldn't have rolled down that hill. it was completely destroyed. It wasn't even a unused one.

Yea, some people just stop driving their cars and trucks and leave them in their driveways or in back of their houses. Some leave nice boats on marina lots and never come back to them, for various
reasons. So, I guess some farmers just leave their tractors out in the field or along the road for various reasons. They all just sit there and slowly fall apart, over the years. Doesn't make sense at all, because as they say... one man's trash is another man's treasure. It begins for some people when they were children. They were given nice toys and bicycles, and just left them outside to rust away into ruin. I guess their parents didn't discipline them or teach them to care for their things, which cost good money. Sad.
