Another anniversary ....57 years today....took delivery of my 1966 Chevy Impala SS.....still going strong!! Ordered it from the factory on October 15th 1965 and picked it up from the dealer on Dec. 9th 1965. I have done all the service work on it over the years myself.....47 oil changes since new. Now we just drive it in the summer to cruise nights, parades, garage sales ( has a big trunk )...about 4000 miles per year. Special memory taking my wife Bev home from church after our wedding 56 years ago.
Actually today on the eve of her 57th year and with our southern Wisconsin roads still dry, my wife and I took her for a country cruise. Rich

I heard somewhere that the secret to becoming the happiest man alive is to keep your first car, first wife, and his first house. Sounds like you may be in the running. May both it and Bev be with you for many years yet.

If the flags on the v8 emblem are original, a 327. Had a 327-325hp in my first new car, a '66 chevelle. Man that puppy would fly.

Paul ...yes it's a 327.....about 22 years ago I had it warmed up a little and put a 700R4 trans behind it.

That is PURDY!
Reminds me-in high school my buddy had a 65. It had three in the tree and the straight 6. I had a 71 pinto with 4 on the floor! HA Well, we would race after school, he always had the advantage at the light BUT his reverse light would come on when he hit second. I realized he was underpowered at the moment and I could zip past and then the advantage was mine! I never told him of his 'tell'!

Nice car! Only new car I've had was a 69 Impala Sport Coupe with a 327 and 3 spd. on the column. Traded it(like a dummy) 2 years later. Often wished I would have kept it.

I was still in training back then and was not sure if i would even be home for Christmas , i went in on July 7th 1966 and with no leave after basic and straight into airborn and after jump school into ranger training every day folded into the next . They did let half of us go for Christmas but had to be back by Dec 30th and back to training and that went on till May 67 when i got 13 days leave to come home before shipping out to Nam. And i did not get my 66 Mercury Comet Cyclone that i wanted . I had to wait for the 68 Road runner.

the powder plant in carthage mo blew up in 66.my grandad was in hospital when that happened.he died right after the explosion.
it blew windos out of hospital.i still think that made him die then

What a car .... what a colour !!! Just last night on Velocity TV I saw a new program called Shorty's Dream Shop which is a new show, see the link below. He was one of the crew on Iron Resurrection for a few years going back. Last night's episode they did a makeover on a '66 Chevy but a convertible .... lovely car too but I prefer the hardtop like yours.

What a sweet heart and a very wise owner to keep it! My first new one was a '66 Chevelle SS 396 375 hp 4 spd. Maroon and black. In a very weak moment I sold it in the summer 67 right before shipping off to Viet Nam. I've been kicking myself ever since, and we had good shed space on the farm to store it!!!!!!

(quoted from post at 11:16:31 12/09/22) Quite the track record. Thank you for your service to your country. Me, U.S. Army, '69/71. Ellis
ad one (almost like yours) in metallic gold with 396, for 20 years. Starting a family, I traded an even more desirable 1962, 327, 340hp Corvette in on the '66. Thinking in today's terms, I gave both away! Cry!

LittleD , Back in the day I had a 66 SS Impala convertible 396 4 speed Marina Blue W/white top Craigers, hedders and dulls that would rattle the windows. Beautiful car drove it in many parades, with all the pretty girls in the back.Wish I still had it.
