White 2-88 PTO

Need help with a problem, tractor pto engages and turns slowly but never comes up to speed. any load on shaft causes it to stop. removed pto unit and replaced broken clutch housing. reassembled but still no good. Removed priority and relief valve body, cleaned and checked. Reassembled but still no good. Brakes and steering on tractor good. 200 psi to pto control unit. 1600 psi to remotes. 3 pt. hitch slow but works. Any suggestions? Chuck

Don't know about a White but your main pressure sounds low and maybe the other also. Which leads me to believe that you have other hydraulic issues maybe a low or poorly functioning supply pump or a weak main pump. Plugged filter or other internal leak like an O-ring or gasket.

According to Tractor Data you should be getting a pressure of more like 2250 at the remotes. I thought they would be more like that and the reason for me saying the pressure sounded low.

Hello NY, welcome to YT! I can assume but you know
what the outcome can be by doing that. Did you
replace orings and lip seals per a service manual when
you replaced the broken clutch housing? I do not know
about a White PTO unit specifically, but did you air
pressure check the apply pistons in the clutch pack
before assembling? Most can be. Here is a link to the

knowledgeable guys about your problem will be
