Wisconsin Engine wont start

:? I have a Wisconsin Engine on a rim crusher and it does not start. I ran it about 1/2 a year ago and it ran fine. Now I came to start it and it cranks really strong and fires a few times and then it cranks really weak and slow..then I wait a minute or two and try it again then the same thing happens again..It fires the same with and without starting fluid..
I changed the wires and spark plugs and it seems to have good spark. I am thinking maybe the starter is bad but I just want to make sure it is that before I go to the work of pulling it off..

Hello B welcome to YT! I am going to leave the first
part of your user name off for now to see if you live up
to it later. It probably makes no difference but is it a
two cylinder or 4 cylinder engine. A 4 cylinder has
more spark plug wires that can be mixed up when they
are changed. So did the machine run and quit or are
you trying to start it after it has set without use for
several years? Do you know if the engine has a
magneto ignition or is it operated off a battery with
points and a coil? Is the battery a 6 or 12 volt? The
description of way the starter is acting likely means
you are experiencing a weak battery, a bad connection
or the starter needs some repair.

Quit using starting fluid as a primer, you're drying out your cylinders and losing compression. Use a gas/oil mix, such as chainsaw mix. The mix will be much kinder on your cylinders and rings. Then, as Used Red suggests, start with the firing order and the plug wires in the right places. It does sound like its new battery time, and a tune up. If it's not a magneto; check, clean, and set the points. Work from there.

First, exactly which Wisconsin do you have? The older flathead, that mostly come to mind? Or,the later OHV Teledyne
version? 1,2,4,cylinders?The older flatheads were notorious for valves sticking when they sat.Something we used to
see a lot on balers after they sat for the winter. Also, what makes you think it needs a starter if it is cranking
good?

t is a four cylinder engine. It has a distribitor. And we have a 12 volt battery hooked up..The battery seems to be good as I have been checking it with a voltmeter..
